Crypto Market Today: Bitcoin, Ethereum Rise While Zcash Drops 15.5%

crypto news today

Bitcoin and Ethereum continued to trade higher as major cryptocurrencies showed a broadly positive trend, while Zcash suffered a sharp 15.5% decline in the latest market snapshot.

The cryptocurrency market started October 5 on a relatively positive note, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB and XRP recording gains across the latest trading periods. However, the market remained mixed beneath the surface, with Solana and TRON showing uneven performance and Zcash emerging as the biggest decliner.

Bitcoin continued to dominate the market by market capitalization, while stablecoins such as Tether and USD Coin remained largely stable. The latest price action indicates that buying interest remains present in major cryptocurrencies, although volatility continues to pose a significant risk for traders and investors.

Bitcoin Holds Above $85,000

Bitcoin (BTC) was trading at around $85,745.34, according to the latest snapshot cited by Analytics Insight. The cryptocurrency gained 0.2%, 0.8% and 2.6% across the three periods measured in the report.

Bitcoin’s 24-hour trading volume stood at approximately $22.34 billion, while its market capitalization was around $1.72 trillion. The gains reinforce Bitcoin’s position as the leading cryptocurrency and suggest that buyers continue to support the asset around current levels.

Recent market coverage has also shown Bitcoin holding around the $84,000-$85,000 zone, with broader crypto sentiment supported by renewed buying activity.

For traders, however, the key question is whether Bitcoin can sustain its momentum. Despite the recent gains, cryptocurrency markets remain highly sensitive to macroeconomic developments, liquidity conditions and shifts in investor risk appetite.

Ethereum Extends Its Positive Momentum

Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, was trading at approximately $2,704.90.

Ethereum recorded changes of 0.0%, 0.3% and 1.9% across the periods highlighted in the report. Its 24-hour trading volume was about $8.28 billion, while its market capitalization stood at roughly $330.25 billion.

Ethereum’s ability to remain above the $2,700 level is significant for the broader altcoin market because ETH often serves as an important indicator of risk appetite outside Bitcoin.

Citigroup also recently raised its 12-month Ethereum price target to $3,028 from $2,240, citing stronger crypto activity, supportive macroeconomic conditions and renewed ETF inflows. Its Bitcoin target was simultaneously raised to $113,000.

BNB and XRP Also Gain

BNB was trading at around $790.97, registering gains of 0.2%, 0.6% and 2.5% across the periods measured.

XRP was priced at approximately $1.51, gaining 0.1%, 1.0% and 0.8% over the same periods. XRP’s market capitalization was around $94.96 billion, with 24-hour trading volume of approximately $1.47 billion.

The gains across BNB and XRP indicate that the positive sentiment was not limited to Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, the uneven performance of other major altcoins shows that investors remain selective.

Solana and TRON Show Mixed Performance

Solana (SOL) was trading at approximately $120.38. It declined by 0.1% and 0.2% in the first two periods before recovering with a 0.5% gain in the third.

TRON (TRX), meanwhile, was trading at around $0.3349, recording changes of 0.0%, -0.1% and 0.3%.

Stablecoins remained largely unchanged. Tether (USDT) traded near $0.9998, while USD Coin (USDC) stood at around $0.9999, with both showing virtually no movement across the reported periods.

Zcash Becomes the Biggest Loser

The biggest negative move came from Zcash (ZEC).

Zcash was trading at around $1,316.57 in the report. After posting gains of 0.1% and 0.7% in the first two periods, ZEC plunged 15.5% in the third period, making it the sharpest decliner among the cryptocurrencies covered.

The move highlights the volatility surrounding Zcash after a period of substantial price appreciation. Recent market data shows that ZEC has experienced significant price swings in September and early October, underlining the elevated risk in the privacy-coin segment.

Zcash’s sharp reversal also comes amid changing investor flows around crypto investment products. Recent reporting showed that Grayscale’s Zcash ETF recorded its first weekly net outflow since launching, with investors withdrawing about $93.6 million during the week.

What the Latest Crypto Market Move Means

The latest market snapshot presents a divided picture. Bitcoin and Ethereum are showing resilience, while BNB and XRP are also benefiting from positive sentiment. At the same time, mixed performances from Solana and TRON and the sharp decline in Zcash show that the recovery is not uniform across the cryptocurrency market.

For Bitcoin and Ethereum, sustaining current levels will be important for determining whether the latest gains develop into a broader rally. For altcoins, investor selection and liquidity conditions could continue to produce significant differences in performance.

With crypto markets remaining highly volatile, traders should watch Bitcoin’s ability to hold above key support levels, Ethereum’s momentum around $2,700 and whether selling pressure in Zcash spreads to other privacy and alternative cryptocurrency assets.
