Pi Network, one of the most talked-about and controversial mobile mining projects in crypto, has rolled out a significant update aimed at improving its ecosystem and keeping its massive user base engaged.
The Core Team has announced changes to the Pi Launchpad participation model and opened testing for a new testnet token called SLICE.
Key Highlights for All Pi Pioneers
1. Pi Launchpad Gets Major Overhaul
After receiving feedback from nearly 480,000 Pioneers who participated in the first testnet token on Pi Day (March 14, 2026), the team has simplified the participation flow, improved the mechanics, and enhanced the user experience.
The new SLICE test token is now live for testing. The testing phase will run until Pi2Day on June 28, 2026.
Important Note: SLICE is strictly a Testnet token and will never migrate to the mainnet. It is purely for testing purposes.
How to Participate in SLICE Testing
Pioneers who want to take part should follow these simple steps:
- Open the Pi Launchpad inside the Pi Browser
- Review the SLICE test token and its project details
- Choose your commitment amount in Test-Pi
- Confirm your participation
- Engage with the “Slice of Pi” app and provide honest feedback
The team hopes this round of testing will help evaluate the new improvements and allow users to better understand the upcoming ecosystem token mechanics.
Current PI Token Price Situation
Despite regular protocol updates and new product launches, the native PI token continues to struggle.
- It recently hit a new all-time low under $0.12 on June 6, 2026.
- The token has recovered slightly and is currently trading around 7% higher from that low.
- From its all-time high in late February 2025, PI is still down a massive 95.7%.
Technical indicators show the token is in deeply oversold territory on the RSI, and some on-chain metrics suggest the worst may be over. However, there is still no clear bullish breakout visible yet.
What This Means for Pioneers
This Launchpad update is part of Pi Network’s continued effort to build utility and test real ecosystem features before (or while) moving toward greater adoption. The project still faces skepticism from parts of the crypto community regarding its centralization, delayed mainnet utility, and token economics.
For long-time Pioneers, active participation in these tests remains one of the few ways to stay engaged and potentially influence the project’s direction.
Final Thoughts
Pi Network continues to walk a tightrope — maintaining interest among its millions of users while the token price remains under heavy pressure. The SLICE testing round gives Pioneers another opportunity to interact with the ecosystem, but real value creation will ultimately depend on delivering functional mainnet utility and sustainable token economics.
The coming weeks until June 28 will be important as the team gathers more feedback. Whether these efforts can help PI recover from its deep drawdown remains to be seen.
